As the world becomes more accepting of individuals personal preferences we have been seeing an increase in this also being included on employee and school ID badges. Inclusive bosses and institutions are now taking a step further to accommodate employee’s preferences by including their preferred pronouns on their ID badges. By including them on employee ID cards individuals can now express their preference in the workplace making for a much more comfortable work/school experience.
Pronouns and Gender Identity in Schools
Schools especially seem to be taking on this new addition to their ID badges citing the desire to show students that gender identity is respected and embraced among the school’s views. Creating a safe environment for students is a schools top priority and that also comes down to feeling accepted among their peers and teachers. To accompany the addition of the student’s preferred pronoun, Syracuse University has also implemented Preferred Name on their ID badges – a highly requested feature among staff and students alike.

Including Pronouns on ID Cards
ID badges, whether in the workplace or schools, are an important way to create a safe environment for employees and students. We have also listed ID badges as an overall important business need in this article. One way to take safety a step further is to included an employee’s pronoun on their ID badges as a way to become inclusive, but also to create a more enjoyable work experience by feeling accepted in the workplace for who they are. The pronouns would likely follow the name on the ID badge and be smaller, less attention-grabbing. In the image to the left you can see the tasteful way that Grace’s pronouns were added to her card.
