Can I make my own press ID pass?
This is a somewhat delicate topic. If you’re an independent journalist blogger, you are absolutely covered under the Freedom of the Press in the US, the same as any other journalist. And, you can make a media ID card to show that.
Members of organizations usually wear membership cards, but individual journalists also wear business media cards for identification. The cards clearly state they’re members of the press.
However, There are several organizations that vet independent journalists and grant passes to members. We recommend going this route as the pass carries the weight of the certifying institution, even if you practice journalism independently.
