CVS Service Enhancements

As users of the CVS (Credential Verification Service) system have surely noted, we have been making a lot of improvements to enhance the system’s usability, such as the ease with which you can now upload batches of new users and credentials.  One of the significant enhancements we’ve made, in response to client requests, is the ability to see all credentials which will soon be expiring.  This gives managers an easy way to check who needs to be scheduled for refresher courses or for re-certification classes.  The system gives you visibility of all credentials expiring in 30, 60, and 90 days.  The information can also be downloaded in an excel spreadsheet, making things even easier for the training manager.  If you’d like to see an online demo of this new capability, don’t hesitate to schedule a web conference!  And watch out for further enhancements coming in the months ahead.

PVC Cards vs. Laminated Cards

Many clients who decide to implement an ID card program first consider laminating.  This consists of printing out paper badges on an inkjet printer, then running them through a plastic lamination machine, which can be purchased at an office supply store for under $100.  While everyone is aware that a laminated card doesn’t look very professional, and won’t last that long, it appears to be a quick, inexpensive solution.  But what initially sounds like an easy, cheap solution turns out to be much more costly in the long run.  Laminated cards typically last for 6 months, vs 3 years for a PVC cards, so right away you need to multiply the cost by 6.  And the cost for employees of getting passport photos (often $8 – $10) can be greater than the cost of a PVC card in the first place.  Not to mention the high cost of plastic sheets, inkjet cartridges, and other supplies!  It is for these reasons that a majority of our new customers tell us they’ve tried laminating, and sign up for the InstantCard service after they realize that they don’t need to sacrifice speed, ease-of-use, or cost!

Easily Store NFC Contact Information In Your Photo ID Cards

We have a number of innovative clients who are printing their photo ID cards on NFC id cards. NFC cards contain a chip and antenna, and can store a wide range of different information. The most common use is to load the card’s chip with the individual’s name, address, phone, & email – ie, their full digital contact record. Then, whenever the employee wants to give someone his contact information, all that person has to do is touch his or her NFC-enabled phone to their photo ID card! Bingo, the contact information is magically transferred from the photo ID card to the phone. If any contact information changes (like if you move to a new address), the data in the card can be re-programmed in a few seconds. Programming the card from any NFC phone is a snap – there are a number of free apps available to allow you to read & edit the information encoded in the card.

This is of particular interest to sales people who meet a large number of potential clients, and want to be sure that their prospects/clients never lose their contact information – which is so easy to do with business cards! It could even be used to allow contacts to request information, or enter a sweepstakes, or receive a coupon.

Now, with hundreds of phones on the market supporting the NFC standard, we can easily facilitate the move from the 19th-century (paper business cards) to the 21st century (digital business cards).
